Support: We are a growing community of women (female-identifying) and non-binary musicians/singers/sound artists who are supporting each other within the community.

Networking: Whatever your genre, style, culture, heritage, we provide a safe and fostering space for like-minded individuals to learn and bond, and gain support from our panel of highly experienced mentors who come from a wide variety of backgrounds within the music industry.

Access: Wherever you may be in your career, we share resources and we are here to help each other reach higher ground on your own path.

Our Belief

We believe in a music scene that reflects the variety of cultures within the city.

We believe collaboration across generations and cultural backgrounds leads to cross-pollination and an enriched artistic environment, launching more international artists.

We believe in providing access and tools to young artists, female-identifying artists, and artists from under-represented groups so that they have a seat at the table and a future in the music industry.

Our History

We started in 2019 with in-person workshops. The emergence program was initiated with the intention to offer tools to emerging artists from underrepresented genres and help find their footing in the industry. We quickly noticed that the workshops were not only helpful and well- received by emerging artists, but they resonated with artists from all ages, career stages and genres. Our community grew and we moved the sessions online in 2020 due to the pandemic. The 2021-2022 season (season 3) will continue to be virtual however we have plans for in-person activities as soon as we are able.

What people are saying about Emergence

  • As an emerging artist from an underrepresented group, this program was invaluable for many reasons. I believe that this is a program that truly serves to empower women of diverse cultural backgrounds in pursuing their artistic careers.

Tissa Rahim, Singer/Songwriter, 2019 Alumni, Season 3 guest mentor

  • The Emergence BC Program mentors have inspired me not only musically but through their generosity in sharing their expertise. Many of them have even taken the time to give me one-on-one career advice and connected me to other great BC musicians, and they have done so humbly. Their help has lifted me up and taken my career to the next level in here Canada, despite the pandemic.

    Taraneh Mousavi, musician, 2020 Alumni

  • I have been a participant in the Emergence Mentorship programs over the past year and find the program to be very valuable because I met so many amazing musicians and music mentors and now friends that helped me through my process of learning how to emerge as an artist. I will always be grateful and I would recommend this program to any musician.
